Enough room to paint a cat

Artist, John Brennan, watches an imaginary cat in his Oxford studio

Despite my new studio's limited size it's actually rather cosy and I've finally produced some decent new work in the past month.

I relocated to Oxford's Magdalen Road Studios at the end of November 2013. It's a friendly place and it's great meeting other artists but It has taken a while to settle in. I missed my light and airy garden studio at the old house for a long time.

I've had to get used to painting under fluorescent daylight tubes and working in a building full of people, albeit in a self contained lock-up space. I'm generally sociable, but when I'm painting I enjoy nothing more than hours of focused solitude.

Better get back to work.
